Pakistan: Quetta - Waste not, Want not
Global Citizen Corps youth leaders met in the CYAAD office to generate ideas about food security projects. Youth leaders started meeting with informal discussion on availability of food, this discussion involved basic questions regarding food waste and its roll in food security.
Youth listened to a song “Jannay ka Haq hain” [we have right to know] which particularly highlights social issues and focuses on understanding individual rights. The song also works to encourage common people to raise their voices and examine the roots of problems and contribute individual efforts. Youth could not control their feelings while they were listening song. Youth eyes filled with tears. This moment gave an opportunity for youth to re-think their perception of social issues.
Moreover, Youth leaders divided into six diverse groups for initiating collective ideas. Youth leaders brainstormed and sketched out feasible local actions to be observed during the month of food security. Each group of youth leaders come with interesting and exciting ideas: Seminars, workshops, one dish one story, sms campaigns, lesson delivery on food security in colleges, rally for food security, provision of one day food to deprived people, awareness campaign on food availability and security, group discussion of shortage of food, sharing & discussion via face book, gcc portal and other social networks, dissemination of brochures for raising awareness on security of food ……………………..
GCC staff shared “I am from video poetry contest” with youth leaders. Youth leaders showed their interest to write a poem and produce video highlighting social issues with solution particularly food security.
Besides, these activities Mr. Jan Muhammad shared the videos on food security the aim of sharing videos was to share the statistics and roots causes of food shortage. These videos gave insights, to youth leaders about food availability, food security, wastage of food and the efficient way of using food.
GCC Youth Leaders concluded the all day activities with common slogan “Waste not, want not”
