My friend Katie, who is also part of the GCC program, and I wanted to create a fun way to celebrate International Peace day but we also wanted it to be informative and meaningful. So we kind of did two different projects. Katie painted the world on a canvas (as seen in the pictures) and used it to promote International Peace day. She asked people at school to support International Peace Day by taking a photo holding the painting, which provided a fun and creative way for people to celebrate. On the other hand, I wanted to really use that day to inform people about global issues. So Katie and I decided on fundraising for Central Africa civilians who are affected by the Lord's Resistance Army.

I created posters that provided information as to where the money was going to and of course let people read over it while I asked for donations. We asked in all of our classes and went table to table during our lunch asking for donations. In that one day we raised $207.46 which we donated to Invisible Children who will use the money for protection plans for Central African civilians. We were able to purchase 8 protection plans. A protection plan provides a village with rehabilitation centers. family reunification, post conflict recovery, promotion of Joesph Kony the leader of the LRA, and cell phone towers to the extremely remote villages.
