Iraq: Sulaimanyah - Festival for Peace
In honor of peace day Iraq GCC youth organized a festival to celebrate a unified nation, bringing together Arab Sunni and Shies, Kurds, Christians and Turks. The event started with some historical background of peace day in Arabic Kurdish and English. The festival included music and singing in multiple languages. Both the Iraq and Kurdish anthem were played, and GCC leaders led peace songs in English and Turkish Three GCC leaders created and acted in a play focusing on peace building and how we can use technology to promote peace building. The festival also included a children’s activity that taught children to use collaboration and teamwork to build peace. After that white doves were released as symbol of peace. The events ended with peace football match between two youth teams. One team was comprised of youth from several different cities; the other was comprised of Suli GCC leaders.
