Video Conference: Gafsa, Tunisia and Portland, U.S.
It's not everyday that we get to talk to people from across the globe, face to face, about their lives, what matters and just get to know one another. This Saturday GCC leaders from Tunisia and the United States will be doing just that. During a live video conference 25 youth leaders will come together to get to know one another and talk about current events in their communities, what they care about and how they can be involved.
Start getting to know each other by responding to this post and introducing yourselves!
Video conferences between young people are one way GCC helps to bridge the cultural divide to incite interesting and meaningful conversation, share experiences and breakdown media and cultural stereotypes. Youth will have the opportunity to get to know one another through casual conversation around 'what their lives are like', discuss their culture and traditions, followed by a more in-depth discussion around current events.
In light of current events in both the US and Tunisia elections are a popular topic with new leadership, transitions, frustrations and opportunities for change. Youth are taking an active role in Tunisia to shape their future and build a new and different societal framework. Connecting youth in Portland, OR and Gafsa, Tunisia will offer young people to opportunity to explore not only the role of youth in political processes it will also shed light on the realities behind the media.
