Iraq: Wassit - GCC Youth Helps Rebuild Al -Wadiya School
In Spring 2011 GCC youth in Al-hay city implemented action project on global Education day, GCC leaders there had an advocacy project aimed to build school “Al-Wadiya” new school in Al-Wadiya village instead of “Al-wadiya” old school which was built from clay and the roof made by palm leaves which could fall on the children any time.
The project started with paying visit to the school and had meeting with students and some teachers, the GCC youth asked the children to write messages by them hand to deliver to the local authorities and department of Education in Kut city, after about one week, the GCC youth success in brining head of Education committee in Wassit council member (Sajida Nazer) to see the school closely and have meeting with students to listen to students request directly. The final step of the youth was visiting the department of Education in Wassit governorate with Wassit council member to deliver the handy messages from children to Department of Education which contained many requests the new school was the prominent in those request. The youth had meeting in the DoE and it went well and got promises to study the option of allocate money to build the school and put it as priority during the DoE plans.
By end of 2011 GCC youth got note that the DoE will send group of Engineer from the DoE to visit the place of the school to collect and record the necessary data and start the building. By early 2012 the work started on the building to be new modern school for the children in this area. The youth visited the DoE again to present the thanks on the quick response of the DoE to such critical needs.

Global Education Day (Al-hay city), in al-hay city in Wassit governorate the leader there also had the same activity when they met the children in one of the rural areas’ school in “albasher neighborhood” the youth during the second visit there succeeded to bring one of Wassit local council member to visit the school and listen face to face to the children needs, the member took the youth request by hand and will discuss it directly with DoE directorate. During this visit the youth presented stationery to the children in this school.
